Steve Haas – President & Principal Consultant
steve@shacoustics.com With a great-grandfather who was a mason that worked on some of Europe’s finest concert halls and a grandfather who was a concert pianist and violinist that played with numerous orchestras, including the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra, Steve was destined to make his mark in the field of music and acoustics. Steve now has more than twenty years’ experience in residential and commercial acoustic design, and has been lead acoustic consultant on numerous award-winning projects such as the Newseum (Washington, DC,) the Country Music Hall of Fame (Nashville, TN) and hundreds of other museum & performing arts projects. He is equally proud of his design and/or renovation of many home theaters, listening rooms and a vast plethora of some the most unique and unexpected spaces to be found in many serene, welcoming homes throughout the world. An accomplished musician and inventor of Concertino®– the world’s first acoustic enhancement system design specifically for private performance and recording environments, Steve is often sought out as an industry expert, and has been invited to speak at seminars and conventions all over the world. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, with an emphasis in Acoustics and Music. In his free time, Steve enjoys playing keyboards, mixing live sound, working out and pretending to be better than he actually is at basketball and tennis.
Marc Coté – Director of Design
marc@shacoustics.com Marc discovered a passion for music at the age of seven when he first started playing guitar and quickly dreamed of being a rock star. Upon entering college, Marc determined he could feed his musical passion while pursuing a more practical career path in Acoustics and Engineering. He graduated with a dual degree from the University of Hartford/Hartt School of Music with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Acoustics and Music) and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In hindsight, Marc now finds his career in acoustical consulting much more fulfilling than the prospect of sleeping on a tour bus. Marc is one of SHA’s primary liaisons between clients and staff, contributing more than 15 years of experience in acoustic and electroacoustic design to our team. Marc has led or collaborated on a wide variety of projects, including concert halls, theaters, lecture halls, performing arts facilities, corporate facilities, museums, residences and educational facilities. A recent home theater design for the captain of a celebrated baseball team ranks among the most challenging and rewarding projects in Marc’s professional career. The dynamics of the design and installation team were difficult and expectations were high, yet the project resulted in one of the best sounding private home theaters ever built. When he isn’t working, Marc enjoys playing cards with his children, performing in a variety of musical venues, and continuing his lifelong mission to find the perfect steak.
Jeremiah Flaherty – Senior Consultant
jeremiah@shacoustics.com From an early age, Jeremiah was often involved with experiments in sound. From counting how long it took for thunder to reach him after seeing a flash of lightning, to trying to shake his high school bleachers with a big loudspeaker, his curiosity for all things “sonic” certainly helped lead him to his future career in acoustics. After working as a home builder and an applications engineer for a major acoustic manufacturer, Jeremiah joined SHA over five years ago and is now one of our lead engineers. His comprehensive knowledge of architecture, construction methods, and both audio and acoustic design enables him to quickly find innovative solutions for both residential and commercial clients. Jeremiah designs and manages all aspects of projects, seeking to realize client vision through effective communication and implementation of creative, cost effective solutions. Jeremiah’s expertise in handling all aspects of residential acoustic design has earned him an exceptional reputation in this specialty field, with several CEDIA award winning home theaters under his belt. In addition to his design of auditoriums, public arenas and recording facilities, Jeremiah has been an integral part of our coveted museum design team, with significant contribution to projects like the Newseum, Canadian Museum of Human Rights and numerous other prestigious institutions around the world. A native of Chicago, Jeremiah attended Columbia College where he studied acoustics, audio and music. He is an active member of the Acoustical Society of America, the Audio Engineering Society and Synergetic Audio Concepts (SYN-AUD-CON). In his spare time, Jeremiah enjoys hiking, composing electronic music in his project studio and training his dog for Frisbee competitions.
Damien Dagovitz - Consultant
damien@shacoustics.com For the majority of his life Damien has passionately pursued his two greatest interests: music and physics. Coming from a musical family, and with a diverse and varied background in each of those disciplines, it was only a matter of time until he found his way into the field of acoustics. At Northwestern University, Damien studied mathematics before leaving school to pursue a music career as a guitarist and songwriter. During this time, he became the manager of a celebrated Chicago area Jazz and Blues nightclub, where he gained his first experience with audio engineering by mixing live sound for the nightly entertainment. This ignited Damien's interest in developing a career in professional audio, and he soon found himself working as assistant audio engineer at a world-renowned recording studio in Chicago. Upon returning to school to earn a formal degree in audio engineering, he discovered the acoustics program at Columbia College in Chicago, and recognized a new direction for his life. Damien now holds a bachelor's degree in Audio Arts and Acoustics, and as a consultant at SHA, he looks forward to making his mark in the world of acoustical design and engineering. Outside of work, Damien enjoys making music with his friends, and learning to play every instrument he can get his hands on. He is an avid practitioner of Bikram yoga, and his obsession with the game of golf has left many wondering how it is possible he is still a double-digit handicapper.
